I already have a drill driver of this vintage and two chargers. I need the hammer drill feature. Not ready to sink the big dough into a drill that I can communicate with using my cell phone, nor pay for a suitcase full of tools that I really don’t need.

You don't want to be able to adjust drill speed via wifi from miles away?

Nice call.  Im a big Milwaukee guy, but dewalt is good and if you already have the batteries and chargers and stuff, thats good!

Thanks. I just do not  want to consume a bunch of crap that I do not need. Minimum outlay I could come up with to get myself a hammer drill. A bunch of years ago, I asked a contractor pal to borrow a hammer drill and a DeWalt cordless just like this one is what he handed me and it was more than adequate.

These are excellent drills. Selling the one I had was a mistake. Which I rectified by buying another one.

Now there’s a ringing endorsement!

Happy FOJ, Dude. I’m hit the shower and over to my sister’s for her barbecue.

What are you up to today?

Excellent choice. My wife bought me a two-drill kit a few years ago. One of the batteries finally died, but the other is still going strong.

Last night we went to my dad’s house for dinner and fireworks.

The local parade was at noon today , just a couple blocks from our house. My buddy brought his kid over, and my father in law came over too. We enjoyed the parade, then had burgers and brats. Everyone is home and in bed now. I thought about going for a scooter ride, but too many people out and about, with too much booze in their system.

I reassembled the van and we gorged on tri tip at our friend's house. Now we're watching Stranger Things.

I just picked up a Milwaukee 1/4" impact today. It will join the drill, die grinder and 3/8" impact I have. It takes a lot of dedication to buy into a tool platform so I completely understand your trepidation.

I was able to get the impact for $89 and a battery ( 2.0 amp for lower weight) for $30. I already have a charger and bigger batteries if I need them. The die grinder, for instance, has more ass with a 9 amp battery.

The minimal capability I needed was hammer drill and with the DeWalt drill/driver I already own, of the same battery type, and two chargers, I shopped for one of these. And the new stuff is ridiculous: talk to your drill with your smart phone. And Milwaukee wants to sell you a suitcase full of tools. I don’t need all of that. I’d settled upon if I bought something new, it would be the Hilti 6h-a22 . That one falls in a zone by itself compared to the offerings of Milwaukee and DeWalt, but $305 for a drill, battery and charger. And I don’t use it for a living.

I understand completely. I got a good deal on the die grinder and it came with a charger for under $100 new on ebay. I didn’t need a hammer drill so I saved a bit there. Thus far I haven’t spent more than $100 for a tool. The 9 amp battery was not cheap though. My old Bosch tools were dead and my father uses his daily at work so borrowing his was not a great option.

I used to have Dewalt tools (looks like the same model as the one you posted) and it they were tough tools I used daily. The drill even spent a few minutes in salt water and never hiccuped.

*The Bluetooth is not something I needed or bought,  but I can see the benefits on a job site. No sense stealing it if you can’t use it or sell it as a working tool.

Cool. I hadn’t considered about being a deterrent to theft; good plan there.

The drill/driver I have now I’ve been using for more than ten years and it’s still going strong.

The only reason I stopped using the Dewalt was because I dropped it and bent the chuck. Then I used a Bosch and loved the way it felt. It lasted for about 8 years before it gave up. Hoping the Milwaukee stuff will last as well. I love the power of the brushless drill and  the way lithium batteries behave vs the old nicad.

Good luck!

I have three generations of Makita and they all work, I just get the new ones because they are smaller, get more powerful and fit in my pelican case for work better. The new black impact has a brushless motor so they can add computer settings, you can set it not to rip the heads off dry walls etc... I love the new compact brushless 18v Makitas.

I actually sold my DeWalt a few years ago to buy a brushless Makita hammer drill/impact driver combo. The impact driver was fantastic, and the battery life was phenomenal, but the drill was completely gutless. I sold them and went back to DeWalt.
